Sun City is internationally renowned as South Africa's premier holiday resort, for both the local and abroad traveller, offering a multitude of attractions and activities to keep everyone occupied.

With its combination of gambling, golf and game, as well as world class hotels, Sun City is the perfect choice for any holiday in South Africa.

Conveniently located about two hours' drive outside of Johannesburg, Sun City boasts four hotels, each of which offers a unique holiday experience, from romance to family fun.

Palace of the Lost City

Offering entertainment for all age groups, the full variety on offer ranges from slots to safaris; theatre extravaganza to a games arcade for children; horseriding to golf; the Valley of Waves to The Lost City.

Overnight visitors to any of the hotels at the Suncity Resort have free access to the Valley of the Waves. This is the most advanced Waterpark in South Africa. A large lagoon dominates the scene with a wave machine capable of generating 1.8 metre waves every 90 seconds. This water park has five exhilarating flume rides. From the aptly named Temple of Courage, swimmers drop a heart stopping 17 metres down a shute and under a bridge before splashing into a small pool at the foot of the slide. For the less adventurous visitor, take a ride on the 'Lazy River'.

A variety of sports activities may be enjoyed at Sun City. Year round good weather in this part of South Africa, ensures that swimming, golf, tennis, squash, mountain biking, horse riding, and parasailing are all on offer throughout the year. Spectacular jogging trails have even been laid out. The Gym and Health spa keep you perfectly toned, and a beauty treatment is the perfect way to wind down after a workout. A wide range of water sports including water-skiing, parasailing and sunset cruises can be enjoyed at the resort 's Waterworld.

When it comes to a safari, guests can enjoy a day trip to the Pilanesberg National Park- a malaria free, Big Five zone. The Pilanesburg is ideal for a quick getaway, as it's the closest national park to Johannesburg International Airport, and is only 15km from Sun City.

The Pilanesberg National Park is one of South Africa's largest national parks, covering an area of 55 000ha. The Pilanesberg area is in fact the crater of a long extinct and eroded volcano, thought to have been formed 1 200 million years ago. Spectacular landscapes are a feature of this area as well as an incredible diversity of game.

There are nearly 200 km of well-maintained roads for game drives, and professional guides operate within the reserve. Guests are not restricted to staying in a car, as there are numerous hides and picnic spots where you are free to stretch your legs. Dawn and dusk game drives are possible even for day visitors from Johannesburg or Sun City due to the convenient opening hours.

Balloon Safaris in the Pilanesberg are also a great attraction. The Pilansberg is one of the few reserves in South Africa with perfect conditions for balloon safaris. Balloon safaris last about four hours and include a game drive in and out of the park, champagne on landing, and a full English breakfast.
And for the golf enthuasist, Sun City, offers the best golf facilities in Africa.

The two golf courses were designed by South Africa 's golf guru Gary Player, and top golf tournaments, such as the Nedbank Golf Challenge, are regularly played here. Sun City has not forgotten the amateur player; the Titleist Golf Academy provides private or group instruction and golf clinics.

It's an excellent way to cool off on a hot day in South Africa. The Pool Braai Buffet and Snack Bar provides light lunches, buffet and snacks in an informal atmosphere. The Pool Cocktail Bar serves exotic cocktails under the cool shade of a pavilion.

Surrounding the hotel is a 25 hectare botanical jungle.  The jungle is threaded with meandering paths, cascades, lakes and pools and a variety of water-borne adventure rides.

Cascades Hotel
A cool breeze, a sultry summer’s day, an exotic cocktail at the sand bar and a hint of Turkish music, set the scene for a perfect holiday retreat.

The Cascades Hotel, the Grotto Restaurant and the pool area underwent an extensive R60-million refurbishment project, transforming the 1980’s themed pool area into a tropical paradise.

The Mediterranean is the deep, blue heart that gives life to the countries that surround it.  With this in mind, Sun City has transformed the Cascades Pool and Grotto Restaurant into an area reminiscent of the azure blue of the tranquil Mediterranean.  The transformation is astonishing and the Cascades now presents the full spectrum - from incredible guest rooms, to world-class dining, to a totally unique pool experience.

The original garden area has been transformed into a lake with cascading waterfalls.  The pool deck has been extended by about 7 metres and the lawn areas have been converted into a sandy beach complete with a secluded bathing area and sand bar evocative of Tom Cruise’s “Cocktail” movie.  Guests can enjoy the ambience complete with bikini’s and flamboyant barmen.  There is a heated pool, a Jacuzzi pool and children’s pool.

The Grotto restaurant has been revolutionised.  The Mediterranean restaurant, now named Santori, is surrounded by glass windows providing an all season enclave harbouring guests during winter.  Alfresco dining takes place along the island promenade and delightful gazebo’s offer shaded areas where guests can relax informally and enjoy a delectable meal.

Santori provides a unique and enjoyable dining experience, satisfying the diner who enjoys a quiet evening of fine dining with family or the person who enjoys relaxing with a cocktail at the poolside.

The refurbishment project also extended to the guest rooms.  In total, 239 rooms were refurbished.  In the standard and family rooms, the entire bathroom was reconstructed and enlarged.  Amenities now include a separate large shower cubicle, which provides an intimate and private experience, and a separate bath that is the ideal place to unwind.  The bathrooms have double vanity units and are somewhat larger than standard hotel bathrooms.  The luxury rooms at the Cascades Hotel were also given the ultra-superior treatment.  Each room has its own dressing room with built in dressing table, cupboards and shoe racks.  The furnishings have also been upgraded and are a tapestry of the verdant gardens and tranquil beach pool area.

The Peninsula Restaurant in the Cascades Hotel was also revamped.  The design concept is a combination of French Provencal and African Tropical.  The restaurant is airy, sunny and comfortable yet it has the indefinable sophistication of yesteryear.  The furnishings and fabrics are a veritable citrus feast of tangerine and ochre, yellows and a variety of greens.  All the wood has been stained a darker hue and the new carvery, buffet and hostess stations have been designed to the chef’s requirements.
