Garden Route Accommodation Page   Map of the Garden Route

The famed Garden Route of South Africa is renowned for its lush forests, wide meandering rivers and the open welcome of its gracious people. Stretching from Mossel Bay through to Plettenberg Bay, the Garden Route is an adventure playground for scuba diving, golfing, surfing, snorkelling, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, biking, hiking, flying, hang-gliding, bungee jumping and more!!

A leisurely drive from the main centre of the area, George, will take you inland to Oudtshoorn, situated between the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains. Oudtshoorn, in the semi-arid Klein Karoo, is perfectly situated for ostrich farming, an industry dating back to the 1800s when ostrich feathers were sought-after fashion accessories. A major attraction is the outstanding Cango Caves, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders sculpted by nature over centuries. The caves offer a surreal journey through subterranean caverns with fascinating and exquisite limestone formations.

Garden Route

Travelling up the coast out of George will take you through the winding valley road to the village of Wilderness. From Dolphin’s Point above the village, schools of frolicking dolphins or stately whales may be sighted in the azure Indian Ocean waters. Bird watching is a rare and unique experience where the tapestry of various landscapes provides a habitat for over 200 bird species.

Continuing further, the scenic route takes you to Knysna, one of the Garden Route’s best-known areas. Famed for its elusive and rare Knysna elephants in the lush Knysna forests, Knysna is well known for its rich history, gourmet restaurants offering exquisite oysters and locally brewed beer, and a variety of art and craft centres.

Nestled in the great forests of the Tsitsikamma Mountains lies the hamlet of Storms River, teeming with birdlife amidst vast expanses of Cape flora, delicate eco-systems within wetlands and lagoons. Visit the world’s highest bungee jump for an adrenaline rush!

A short distance from Storms River is Nature’s Valley, a little bay whose untouched indigenous trees, forest and beautiful unspoiled coastline are jealously preserved.

Plettenberg Bay with its abundance of unique tourist attractions will guarantee an unforgettable holiday experience. Kilometres of pristine beaches, land and boat based whale and dolphin watching, world-class championship golf courses, spectacular walks and hikes and many magnificent country meanders will keep you spellbound. Enjoy the village and township experiences or take in one of the many land, sea and air sporting activities on offer.
